As EducaPoles sets out to inform young people and the educational world of the importance of the Polar Regions and climate change, the International Polar Foundation (IPF) 's Scientific Officer was keen to follow the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 21) last December in Paris and related events. In this series of articles, she shares her experience of these events, what can be learned from them and the next steps in the climate change challenge.
On 12 December 2015, COP21 negotiations closed as 195 countries adopted the Paris Agreement with great enthusiasm. The Paris Agreement’s main aim is to keep a global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius and to drive efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The agreement also aims to strengthen the ability to deal with the impacts of climate change.
Through the following articles, let's go back in time to relive the events that led to the adoption of the Paris Agreement to get an overview of some of the initiatives and what they can teach us before looking to the future to see what we can all do next.

COP21 has created a great momentum for change. In his remarks at closing of COP21, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon said «We have an agreement. It is a good agreement. You should all be proud. Now we must stay united -- and bring the same spirit to the crucial test of implementation. That work starts tomorrow.»
